Skyzoo’s official studio debut, “The Salvation”, brings Hip Hop home to true fans of the craft. You may know him from his mouth watering mixtape (pause lol) “Corner Store Classic”. You may even remember him from his 106 & Park freestyle battle with former Ruff Ryder emcee, Jin. However you may know him, he is without a doubt an artist you want to watch out for. With a laid back flow that resembles VA based rapper Skillz, Skyzoo tells his story with the help of power producers, such as, Nottz, Just Blaze and 9th wonder; just to name a few. “The Salvation” enables its listeners to peek into the life, of not only Skyzoo, but every up-and-comer making the transition from dwelling at the bottom with a hungry stomach to a passion driven dream. We see this from the very first song entitled, “The Opener”, in which we are serenaded with a gospel song not by a choir but on the street corner, where most artists begin their start. As the track transitions from an awakening piano to that of a hip-hop heartbeat bass line, Skyzoo states that “…he aint aim to make a classic/ but he aims to state what happens/ and if the outcome gets praised then blame the havoc/…” The havoc was created by his ability to delivery and by the beautiful sounds of a diverse production team. The album’s first single, “The Beautiful Decay” (produced by 9th wonder)* Click here for video*, opens with the first line; “Majority rules/ all of that is just a part of the rules/ and the majority of us, is just a part of the cool/”. Skyzoo begins to hone in on the fixation of being cool and idolizing the positives of an unfavorable situation by today’s urban society. Later on in the album, the song entitiled “The Necessary Evils” (produced by Needlez) *Click here for video* speaks on the struggles of trying to make it in life and giving into temptations. It is the “Decay” of “The Beautiful Decay”. I dedicate this song to all those involved with the wrong crowd, putting their life on the line just to achieve a materialistic lifestyle.

The only track that has something against it is Penmanship (produced by Black Milk). Its sound resembles that of a MF Doom track. However, the beat takes a few listens to adjust to, after one or two plays, your head begins to bop right along with the song.

Skyzoo’s “The Salvation”, fulfilled its promise of keeping true to hip hop and providing reassurance to those tired of hearing bubble gum rap. Skyzoo tells his story without any guest features, and nothing less than sufficient productions, Skyzoo’s official debut album, “The Salvation” brings you back to a summer day BBQ at the park where the only thing being ciphered were rhymes.

Of the 16 track list, I recommend listening to each and every one. You wouldn’t skip parts of a story would you? With that being said I’ll leave you with a few words from Skyzoo himself.

(The Beautiful Decay)
“Please don’t believe in everything that you listen to. Everything you listen to, was everything they didn’t do…but for the beautiful I can find the decay in it. I take the newest light bill….use the back of that light bill and write what I’m saying and hope that it’ll keep ya lights on when you playing it”
